Coaster Con side trips?
« on: May 10, 2009, 07:52 »

Having already been to both the parks in Coaster Con, what other side-trips might people be interested in?

We already have our tickets for Schlitterbahn. But what about
* Frontier City in OK
* Magic Springs in AK
* Route 66 Carousel park ( seems like it's on the way)
* Zonkers ??

Or should we just plan to take in some shows? As 3 days at the park will be a bit over-kill.

Thoughts???  Any tag-alongs ??

I highly recommend Dixie Stampede - it's a lot of fun.
There are quite a few caves around that are worth a visit.
Bass Pro Shops - Outdoor World in Springfield is very cool.

I don't know if you are a church person or not, but Noah the Musical is great (Branson) and the outdoor Passion Play over in Arkansas is pretty neat to see

Rt 66 and Zonkers is a "pop-in-and-out" park
You might as well do All Stars in Wichita too if you are going all the way to OKC

Adventureland is just three hours north of KC. :)

I imagine that since they're from Wisconsin, they've been to that park before.

And you don't want to know what happens when they visit Adventureland  seeya

Magic Springs might looks somewhat close on a map but it's a bunch of twisty mountain highways.  Zonkers is a waste of time unless you're credit whoring.  Frontier City is also way out of the way.  What about Arnolds Park in northern IA?  Have you guys been there?

Janessa a I are still on the fence about our plan as well.  We're leaning towards skipping Branson all together and just doing the WoF portion of the event.

Personally I'd save Frontier City and All Stars for a Texas trip

Well we've been to adventure land, (We've even seen the movie that just came out by the same name as well).

As for shows and such in Branson, we've seen a bunch already, the only one that we're thinking of doing is Yakov.

 I was thinking more about Magic Springs & Crystal Falls. That's about 4 hrs away, and we could do it on the way to Branson, then go North into branson from AK. And come 1 day late?

Just a thought.  Anybody else planning anything else, like boating, shows, caves??  Maybe we can get a group together?

Just an FYI, Driving through AK is a major pain in the butt.  Time seams to stop down their cause there roads/infrastructure really stink.  For me I'd Rather drive to Dallas than Little Rock.

That being said, if you think this is the only time you will be down that way in awhile then I'd do just to get it out of the way.

While you should look around once in awhile it is ALWAYS better from the top of a coaste

Here's something that I found on Facebook that's KC specific.

Arnolds Park has a really surprising little woodie, if you've never been there. Then again, Okoboji is about fifty hours away from other civilization.

Might want to skip making a trip down to Magic Springs
2 coasters are down, including the Twister and X-Coaster, not to mention a lot of other rides

I too read some nasty things about Parc too.  It sounds like they're going with a bare bones approach but not replacing the bones once they break.

^^Yep, like the fact that Ride of Steel at Darien Lake has only one train this year because PARC didn't want to pay for the expensive part to fix the other -- oh and now the lift motor has given out so we'll see how long it takes for Ride of Steel to get back runnin.

sheesh

That's exactly what I read too.  It's an interesting approach.  Having to save up for parts that are required to run your signature attraction can't be good.
