I think the whole wizard of oz rebranding might be him being ignorant of the fact that the books are not yet in the Public domain.  There is still a Frank L. Baum estate that has active copyrights.  The licensee of that trust already has a (seemingly dead) theme park project, and I have a hard time believing they can come up with the money to license the movie from Turner Entertainment Co., Sony Corp., or Warner Bros. Inc.

When is it scheduled to go into public domain?

That's the problem with modern copyright.  Now copyrights don't expire until 70 years after your death.  However, in this case since it is an estate that holds the copyright I believe that as long as the estate exists, the copyright won't expire.

Sounds like Murphy will be supplying the 'amusement park' after all, and even better: they're supplying a roller coaster of some kind to be the park's headliner. I'm going to put my bets on the death trap pinfari (or was it a schwartzkopf?) that almost killed about a dozen people last year at the Tulsa State Fair. They'd prop it up there with some new paint just because they can't keep it in one piece on the fairways anymore.

Even if they go out and buy new rides, their reputation with Big Splash is still preceding them. Unpaid rent, rides that are falling apart, claiming income losses when they're raking in the dough... We'll see what happens.  :dunno:

NUH UH.

As long as there are no actual flying monkeys, I'm good.

what a cluster F***.  I love the last line of the article
Quote
the park needs significant landscaping work, including "more shade."

Yea no kidding?  You mean a park completely exposed to the Kansas Plains isn't a good idea?  But even so, currently they have no rides, exposed electrical wiring where rides used to be, decaying poorly built buildings, and they are talking about shade?

200:1 they don't open this thing up anytime in 2009(if at all for that matter)

Meh, if they've got the money and/or the credit, they can get this thing open by next summer, but like I said: it's going to be a dump. With Murphy in charge of the rides, this will be little more than a ghetto credit stop. I can only hope his trashy rides don't kill and injure as many people as they do when they're on the fair circuit.

From the article-

Quote
Several investors told the state and The Eagle that Etheredge offered no prospectus or park balance sheets, characterizing the park only as a good investment.

Investors might have also said "We are a bunch of idots that will throw thousands of dollars at anyone who simply tells us they have a "good investment"

These people are just ridiculous.

Well without sounding like a "Missouri-fanboy" -- this is kansas we are talking about, and more specifically the Wichita area.

Yea cause nobody in MO would make that mistake...

Facts are there are idiots everywhere, sure in some places they occur in higher frequency. Take your website for instance...  pure_evil

No what I mean it that this is WICHITA.  This is the town that started a new interchange near the Eastgate Mall about 3-4 years ago and still haven't finished it.  It's the town that has a great old-fashioned trolley park that they are letting rot.  This is the town that is dumb enough to think a park in the middle of nowhere near Park City was a good idea.

IDK about you, but I make sure I have all of my ducks in a row before investing in something.

Now in reference to my website, I would expect a comment like that from a ROYALS fan. :P

Is it just me or does this mean that there won't be a theme park in the future?

Sounds like someone may have power and light envy, personally. Does not look like the main intent was for a park.
