SFStL or IB?
« on: May 21, 2006, 03:01 »
:help:

I'm going on a huge trip to HW, PKI, and CP in June. CP is the last park, and I want another park to break up the drive home, and I'm thinking of going to Indiana Beach or Six Flags St. Louis. Right now I'm leaning toward IB because its cheaper and closer to CP which helps it fit into my schedule better. I'm still a bit torn though, and I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions. Any help would be appreciated.

I would hit Indiana Beach since St Louis would be pretty easy to do on any given weekend.

We would be most greatful if you wrote a couple of trip reports during your tour of the Ohio valley. :angel4: :sunny:

Photos of a trip like that would probably be really cool too.  pure_evil

You can most definitely count on trip reports, I kinda enjoy writing them. (Does that make me weird?)

Pictures are a problem. I want a digital camera, but a lack of the almighty $ is preventing that. And I really don't want to dig into my (quite large) stash of graduation money just yet. Do you think you could deal with scans from a regular camera?  pure_evil

Another thing IB has is Cornball Express, it looks better than anything SFStL has IMHO.

I already have a a plan for a short trip to the Dells and SFGAm, I could squeeze SFStL into that trip. Probably next summer though.

Still, I would appreciate more input. I asked for advice over on TN and didn't get much help. I think it's because I type with decent grammar and don't sound completely retarded when I ask questions, but I don't know.  dancing_banana

I would agree with doing St Louis next year on your way to Chicago.

What other type of advise do you seek?  One piece of advise I'll give you is to stay at a park property while at CP.  We usually just go cheap and stay at Breakers Express, this gets you into the park early.

And no you're not a weird for enjoying the art of writing a good trip report.  I've actully been laying on the couch this evening writing one.

I wanted to stay at Breakers Express, but I think I'm going to go to the Motel 6 in Milan, I found a room for about $50 a night. I'm not worried about getting into the park early because I'm spending two full days at the park (a Wednesday and a Thursday, no less).

I just want to know if anybody has any random tips. The biggest concern is PKI tickets, are there any discounted ones available other than their website?

And I still want to make sure IB is the right choice. This is kind of my 'senior trip' so I want to make sure nothing goes wrong.

Oh you should have stayed at the Microtel there in Huron.  It is not that far from the "back entrance" to Cedar Point and it is a very nice hotel.

I would go IB.  If you have never experienced it then you are in for a surprise.  Cornball is great as is Hurricane.  LoCoSuMo is byfar one of the weirdest coasters I have been on, but worth a spin.  Have fun!!!

I would go do IB, myself and do SFSTL later!  Although the park is at a high right now, STOP is not haveing a good start off, there seems to be still some problems either in the mechanical or the electronics that causes the ride to shut down!  Hopefully this will be taken care of soon, the ride opens and then is shut down throughout the day because of the delays.   BBNP is not all that much unless you have small children to participate the experience with them.  Looks nice, but a family ride package is a little bit far fetched.  Most are mini versions and require an adult to ride or a certain size, which is fine but only leaves the Tower as the new attraction for Pre teens, teens, the parents, and other Adults with out Kids.

Park is now open for weekly operations, So the money race is on!  Unfortunately most schools are finishing up this week locally around the park.  So most High School Kids have this week and some next week are getting out!  Staffing seems to be always the issue, I know the new RULE with Shapiro and Staff seems to be a goal that may be a little to hard to reach.  Staffing of employees at Restrooms in my eyes will be the big let down this year, Yes they have a few at most, but not all, the wrong aproach is being taken.  Most attendants stand out side waiting to be told either by a geusts walking out that action needs to be taken.    Yes I agree that park facilities need to be, clean but this is an amusement park, and wheres the amusement if the rides are not open, but  bathrooms have an attendant, take a ride on the potty train.

I myself would still wait later in the season, because if you have been here, The park has changed yes, but mostly in appearence and a few new rides for the kids.  I would not miss a chance to do a park I haven't done!

I love my home park, may not sound like it at times.  The park is beautiful in alot of areas and needs love in others.  This will be a major turning point for the park this year.  Please come visit, you won't be dissapointed when staffing issues are taken care of by Mid June, will this help the loading and off loading of major rides.  Unlike years past, there are a few more sreps in the safety process of all coasters, Seat Belts on the Eagle kill loading times and are now required on These older attractions at most parks, and the fact since new modifications she hasn't been that reliable either.  She has shut down a bit herself.

Like I said, these changes were done to late and into the operating season and should of been worked out during our "mild" winter, when the place was closed!

I would recommend using the fast pass system if they offer it on weekdays at CP.  Two weekdays will give you plenty of time to ride everything multiple times but the fast pass will reduce the amount of time that you spend standing around in line.

I can't find the info on their site but it works like this.  You get in line for a fast pass at like 10am or 11am and they will stamp your hand with a time to return.  You can get two stamps total.  The stamp allows you to skip about 90% of the line.

Do they even use the Freeway system anymore at CP?  I thought they ceased that last season.

That might explain why I can't find it.

Some other good advice is to avoid any meals that are fish related.  Do however get the mini-corndog/fry tub covered in cheese.

Avoiding fish is probably a good call, I hate all types of seafood. Is that corndog thing at CP? Sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen. And I can't wait to have one.  dancing_banana

It is indeed at CP and it is the best heart attack ever. pure_evil

The elephant ears in the back of the park (Frontier section) are also awesome.  I usually get one late in the day.  Their like a funnel cake except that they are one large chunk of dough and they cover it with cinnamon and sugar.

You should try and hit TTD and MF as early as possible.  Most of the other rides have fast moving lines.

Hit Millie first thing otherwise you will have to wait in a 3 hour line later on.  :speechless:

Even on weekdays? That seems nuts. I'm kind of worried about it being down, it was down yesterday, the rumor going around had something to do with the lift but I'm not quite sure. I'll be pretty mad if it's not open, its the #3 want-to-ride coaster on the trip (behind Voyage and TTD).

Yes even during the weekdays.  Remember Cedar Point is a DESTINATION park so there will be lots of people everyday regardless.  Another thing that I find annoying about this park is that even if it rains people still stay at the park, again because it is a destination park.

I've got all the details for my trip planned out. And you guys asked me about pics, well good news. I bought a digital camera yesterday so I'll be able to take some photos for you. I'm not gonna guarantee that they are amazing, the camera is just a small 6.0 megapixel Sony with 3x zoom, but I'll do the best I can.

It sounds like you actually got a pretty sweet camera.

All of the photos in our galleries are either taken with my Sony (7.2 mp with 3x zoom) or Ben's Canon (5 mp + freakin' mega zoom).

So are you going to St Louis of IB?

I think IB. It's cheaper, and I can't resist a good woodie. Wait...that came out wrong...

It fits into my schedule better anyway. Instead of driving four hours one night to get to CP, I'll only have to drive two-ish (just rough guesses though). I do want to make a trip to SFSTL someday, considering I live four hours away and I've never been there...
