Redoing Europa
« on: Apr 18, 2006, 09:18 »
Let's face it, the park has been in upgrade mode for the last 3 or so years.  I think the next major upgrade should occur in Europa.  This is going to take a a couple of years to do it, but the end result will be quite nice. The best part is -- this could start next season.

The first phase will see Autobahn moved/removed to a new location over on what will become a new midway where Lumberjack Snacks and a few games are located near Thunderhawk.  This new area will have a new games area as well as a more modern food stand and will be the home of the new Dodgem bumper cars.  This will be the same cars and electrical work that was used in Autobahn, only a new building to house it with new outside signing like at Cedar Point.

Bounce-a-roos and Smoothie Company will also need to be moved/removed.  In the place of those rides and buildings will go two new rides from Zamperla.  One will be the tea cups and will be housed in a building much like what SDC did with their new ones.  The other ride will be a Disk-O which will be placed as close to the bathrooms as possible so that the space can be maximized between the two attractions to accomodate queue line.

On the other side of the midway where the old Grand Prix remote controlled cars were will be a new sitdown restaurant.  I am thinking TGIFridays, but will go with anything as long as there is another table service restaurant added.

Moving on around, Flying Dutchman's queue will be reconfigured so that it goes to the west of the ride and then back up on the hill will be another ride from Zamperla -- the Regatta.  Using the ship theme will also tie into the already existing Dutchman ride.

The second phase for the area will see the moving of the Taxis over near the new location of the bumper cars and then the vacated area will be used for a large new roller coaster.  I honestly do not care what type as long as it is big and compact.  This is prime real estate for a coaster and it should be used.  I'm thinking that Italian Stallion would be a great name for a coaster in Europa, but I am not trademarking it so WOF can feel free to use it.

The big thing that I want to stress about the additions that I am talking about here is to give families more opprotunities to ride together.  By adding tea cups, a regatta and a disk-o there are three new rides that can be ridden together as a family.  Also by moving the rides over to a new midway by Thunderhawk, you are preparing for future growth to the West of that area.

See the attached rough sketch of what the area might look like.

Wow!  You really put a lot of thought into this. :speechless:

That seems like a lot of work only to be overly similar to the new area at SDC.  If they were to move somethings around and add new I would want some rides that might not be available around here.

Your plan also puts a lot more rides in Americana and ignores Scandi.

My plan would include adding a flat in Europa.  A Scremin' Swing, Giant Frisbee, Revolution or a Disco with a hump would suffice.  I would then add a coaster to Scandi.  It wasn't my idea but I like the one that includes a station behind Finish Fling.

They thing is - there are only so many family flat rides that the park does not already have.  I was thinking that they could do this as well as a large expansion to OOF at the same time.

I was also thinking that perhaps they could take Dutchman out in the near future and put another flat ride there -- a Break Dance perhaps?  Then put a huge Wave Carousel there in Scandinavia there near the entrace so that is the first thing that you see when you walk into the park.

Yipes, I hope they don't take Dutchman out. That's the only ride I know of on which you can put your feet up.  ddr

Your plans sound a lot like SDC's. Maybe take the DiskO out of the picture and put a Screamin' Swing or a Giant Friz in its place.
Also, if they moved Autobahn and put new dodgems in the building, WoF would have three different Dodgems. I like the name "Italian Stallion," but it sounds more like a family coaster - maybe a smallish woodie.
Giant Frisbee, PLEASE!
...and the clocks were striking thirteen.

I really like that plan a lot, but because so many people from around here visit SDC, I would try to differentiate it a bit from SDC. I like the idea of a frisbee instead of a Disk-O. And I think a GCI similar to OzCat would be awesome in the taxis lot. Maybe even bring back the racing woodie idea? Lightning Racer anyone?

Personally I think a flyer would be perfect in the taxis lot, but we would probably have to see one at CP before that happens.

OK, so I updated my ideas for Europa.

We took out the Disko and put a Screamin' Swing in its place.  The tea cups have been moved over to where the remote control cars were.  A Huss Breakdance is where Bounce-a-roos was.  Then the pizza place will be converted into an enclosed sitdown table service restaurant.  Finally a GCII on the hill where the taxis were.

I like the new plan more but I still think that it's a lot of work just to build up a landlocked area.

A Screamin' Swing or Giant Frisbee would probably draw more people into Europa and it wouldn't require moving half of the rides.  Just move the bumper cars and the smoothie stand.

You are only really moving the bumper cars and bounce-a-roo with my plan.
The GCII would come later on.  I don't see it happening in the near future.

I do like that plan, but I'm trying to picture the area in my mind, and it seems to be a bit cramped. It would probably work though, and this second plan sounds great. Now I just wish WOF would read this and do it....

One more thing, how vital to the park is the Moulin Rouge? Tearing it down or moving it would clear up a ton of space. I think a giant frisbee could fit in the building's footprint easily. Thoughts?

I don't see why anything would need to be torn down. :whut:

The park has a ton of unused room.

I don't want them to tear anything down, I was just wondering how much the park would actually lose if they did tear it down. I don't want to see anything go. I'm just imagining what could go there with so much room being cleared up.

It would free up enough room for a new ride but demolition would be an additional cost.

I keep changing my mind about things.

I have decided that instead of adding the teacups and regatta in Europa that we will add them in a new Mexico section off of Bicentennial Square.  Where the Remote Controlled Cars were will be the new Smoothie Stand only bigger and featuring more products.  I am thinking the Gyros could go here instead of where they currently are.  It would make more sense to have the Greek food in the Europa Section.

They Mexican themed section would have a Cantina with a show inside.  The Regatta themed to boots.  The Tea Cups can go over there and be themed to Sombrerros like the one at KBF.  There could be a Frisbee over there as well and that could get a Dustdevil themed name to it.  I also think that a Mexican themed section would be the best place for a GCII woodie.  Granted Timber Wolf is near by, but so what.  Oh and the Bumper Cars' new home would be over there as well.

Back to Europa...
The Screamin' Swing will go where the bumpercars are currently and the Breakdance will go where Bounce-a-roos is.

I like this idea much better. :occasion14:

What would you name the Screamin' Swing?

I do like the Mexico section of SFOT, and I'm sure WOF could pull this off. It would be a neat addition. Too bad the name El Toro is already taken, I love that name for a Spanish-themed woodie. And Halloweekends could have a Day Of The Dead festival in the area. So many possibilities.

I think the best name would be ICARUS and then go with some Roman theming around it.  It would fit the ride's motion very well.

For the Woodie in Mexico - Tormenta - which is Spanish for "storm."  Also the festival you are thinking of is el Día de los Muertos.
