This argument is lame-o.

Agreed.  How about some good ol' speculation?  I am hoping that the Zinger haunt will be some sort of Doll haunt like it was rumored that we may have this year.  And I would also like to see something Like "Club Muse" that they had at BGT.

Well, I'm assuming they rearrange props and stuff in the haunts every off-season, does that make them new haunts too?

No.  Actually the gags and turns are always in the same order every year.  They don't de-construct any of the "non-scare-zone" Haunts besides Asylum and even it has been in the same order the last two years.

It's obvious that we don't agree and it's dumb that it even came up.

We're not going to change each others minds about what constitutes new. :dunno:

How about we just go with 9 total haunts for 2008?

Me too. I just read this whole thread and was thinking there is no way that it will be the same haunt. If camp is in a new location it is going to feel like an all new haunt. The change in direction will be different and the props will be in different locations.

 :BangHead:

Here's how I see it. Camp will move. WoF will advertise it as a new haunt, making 3 "new" ones. But, anyone with half a brain (I'm assuming that is most of us on this site) will realize that it really isn't that much different. While it technically is new, I see how some (myself included) won't consider it to be new. Therefore, it will really only be two "original" new haunts. To some there will be three. It doesn't matter.

This is still very lame.

So, to you, are Carnevil and Carnivorous Clowns the same?

Honestly, I never went through Carnevil last year. But, I'm assuming if it had clowns and the same props, it probably wouldn't have been much different to me.

Here's what I'm thinking....

It's like apples and oranges   :idea1:

They are the same, since they are both in the Fruit-Group....  but yet, they are totally different types of fruit....

Are you with me??   Same... but also different...

So, when something has a little different in it, is it really the same at all??

This is SO Freakin infuriating.  I just can't let it go.

But I am going to cause as infuriating as it is, it is even more ridiculous to continue.

Can't remember the number but I think it is like 17 at Knotts...

Could be wrong but I know they have the most in quantity and quality from what I have heard.  Definitely want to get to that park during the Halloween season.

Carnevil sucked compared to it's predecessor in my opinion so I think the difference was noticeable.  Will the same be true for Camp?  We won't know until September.  As Jason pointed out there will be 9 haunts total.  Whether it is 3 entirely new haunts, 2 new haunts and 1 revamped haunt, or 2 new haunts and a scare zone we should be glad how far this event has come in just a few years.

Being that I'm a jerk and enjoy picking at scabs I decided to make a blog comment about the haunt count debate.

Since this is the official Haunt thread I also wanted to mention that while walking around the park last night I started getting the Haunt itch (usually caused by humidity.  Apply powdered sugar to affected areas twice daily).  I know that it would kick me square in the nuts because of travel and the new hours are a little longer, which means less sleep but it's creeping in.

Maybe they need extra security.  My military background would make me an awesome teenage beat down expert. :boxing:

Hopefully this thread is ready for more info....

Found 2 new permits today. One has a different project number than the Zinger Haunt permits.  Here is a summary of the Zinger Haunt permits:

IMO opinion Camp will not see the fall off that the clown themed haunts did.  Mainly because Camp will (presumably) not be changing to a zone and will remain a maze style haunt.  Zones are a much much more difficult form of haunt in my experience.

This is also why I WILL NOT be considering it a new haunt just an updated haunt.

Oh was that a dead horse bellowing? :)

^The reason Clowns saw such a fall off was the fact that the park had already promised 2 new Haunts for the season in their brochure and honestly ran out of time/funds to really do anything spectacular -- so we got the CarnEVIL scare area.

^^Good job Bradley.  That makes me feel much better that it is going to be yet another permanent haunt with its own specific building.  These new buildings will really help with the storage issues that the park had before on where they could store all of the HAUNT decorations and props.

Actually no.  That is entirely wrong.  CarnEVIL was put out exactly as planned.  This area also included a show, and other elements that previous haunts hadn't included.  So the fact that it was something of a let down in the traditional haunt sense, is no real surprise.  But for many it was just fine.

Also I will expand on what I was saying earlier.  This type of haunt presents many challenges for the Screamsters that the other haunts really don't have to deal with. Fright zone, Carnevil and to a lesser extent Dominion of Doom all are considerably more difficult to scare guests in than confined maze style haunts.  Fright zone has a couple of real advantages over Carnevil.

1. Guest are headed in a direction and have a destination in Fright Zone.  Granted the traffic is two-way, but at least you can predict guest movement there by making the scare easier. In carnevil they are just roaming around making a true suprise scare ever more difficult.
2. General lack of Fog or otherwise creepy surroundings.  Lets face it Africa can be a scary part of the park on an afternoon in July.
3. Extremely talented and seasoned Screamsters, familiar with the challenges of zone style scaring.  This is taking nothing away from all the clown screamsters from last year, they will just improve with every year as the Fright zoners have.

After working the last two years at WoF as a screamster, I know how difficult and challenging it is to actually scare people.  Fright zone was the hardest zone to scare people in now that title most definitely goes to Carnevil.  Both of those areas screamster have my respect.

So saying that the area failed due to lack of funding or time for preparation is unfair, and more to the point just plain guesswork crap.

Did Bloodshed get more attention than Carnevil? Yes of course, it was the main addition to last years haunt.  And that was the plan from the beginning.  I am sure they would have liked to do more to it than they did but that can probably be said for every haunt addition.

You make it sound as though it was due to ineptness, or lack of planning or money that the zone wasn't a smash hit.  The zone was under a tight time frame for completion as is almost everything in the park.  But it was always going to play second fiddle to the main addition to the Haunt.  It was however not an afterthought addition.  I see it more as a bonus addition.

Above I outlined for you several reasons why Carnevil wasn't (isn't) as good as some of the other Haunts.  And those reasons rank CONSIDERABLY above the reasons you mention.  And no matter how much more planning, funding, or pixie dust they throw on it this year it still won't be as capable of a haunt as the others.

So to get this  backtotopic  It looks like we could have a similar situation happening this year.  With 2 new Haunts being added one will get the majority of the attention I am sure while the other will be second and get what is left over.  There is only so much manpower and I like that they focus on giving us one PREMIERE Haunt every year and for a second year in a row a second decent haunt as well.  This is a recipe to soon be competing with Knotts IMO.
