^The reason Clowns saw such a fall off was the fact that the park had already promised 2 new Haunts for the season in their brochure and honestly ran out of time/funds to really do anything spectacular -- so we got the CarnEVIL scare area.
Actually no. That is entirely wrong. CarnEVIL was put out exactly as planned. This area also included a show, and other elements that previous haunts hadn't included. So the fact that it was something of a let down in the traditional haunt sense, is no real surprise. But for many it was just fine.
Also I will expand on what I was saying earlier. This type of haunt presents many challenges for the Screamsters that the other haunts really don't have to deal with. Fright zone, Carnevil and to a lesser extent Dominion of Doom all are considerably more difficult to scare guests in than confined maze style haunts. Fright zone has a couple of real advantages over Carnevil.
1. Guest are headed in a direction and have a destination in Fright Zone. Granted the traffic is two-way, but at least you can predict guest movement there by making the scare easier. In carnevil they are just roaming around making a true suprise scare ever more difficult.
2. General lack of Fog or otherwise creepy surroundings. Lets face it Africa can be a scary part of the park on an afternoon in July.
3. Extremely talented and seasoned Screamsters, familiar with the challenges of zone style scaring. This is taking nothing away from all the clown screamsters from last year, they will just improve with every year as the Fright zoners have.
After working the last two years at WoF as a screamster, I know how difficult and challenging it is to actually scare people. Fright zone was the hardest zone to scare people in now that title most definitely goes to Carnevil. Both of those areas screamster have my respect.
So saying that the area failed due to lack of funding or time for preparation is unfair, and more to the point just plain guesswork crap.
