I love working at Worlds of Fun!
« on: Oct 27, 2008, 04:07 »
I really do love working there. I worked at Camp Snoopy last year as the Peanuts costume characters, and this year I worked at Games. Every year it gets better. It really does.

Sure, we don't get paid a ton...
Sure, we don't always work with the best people to work with...

But I honestly, in the long run have a great time working there.
Everyday I find out another reason why working at WOF is great.

At Games, you have to talk to the people, and that's not easy in the beginning, but you get used to it.

I especially have fun working at Fool the Guesser over in Americana. Sure, I'm sent down there first every single morning, and then again around 3 o'clock. But I still learn to have fun with it.
Trust me, anything you do in the park won't be automatically fun. You have to learn to have fun.

I could go on and on, but I won't.

But WOF really is a great place to work. =)

It's good to see people who enjoy their job. I've come across many park employee that can't wait to get off...even first thing in the morning. The job won't be so bad if you can have a little fun.

I agree with you Snoopy! Working at Worlds of Fun for the past 2 seasons has really added more depth to my passion for the park. It's not just the park itself, but more of the people you work with too. I worked my way up to Asst. Lead at Timber Wolf this year (until I had to go to school), and I got to be in charge with several awesome people who made working up there a lot of fun. Since I was in charge of opening the ride as well, I got to talk to several of the mechanics/electricians about how the ride works. I'm currently going to Missouri University of Science and Technology for engineering, so being able to talk to the electricians and mechanics was very beneficial:thumbsup:. Also, I had the best way of waking up in the morning... doing a "track walk" around the foundation of Timber Wolf, and at night I could do "Lift Walks" to the top of the lift, and view the park at night. Working there has also changed me as a person, as prior to working there, I used to be a whole lot more shy than I am now, and thanks to Worlds of Fun, I've overcome my shyness. I also see the different areas in the parks as "mini" families... like Games one family, PARK OPERATIONS another (go Park Ops!), foods, etc. and it just makes everything a whole lot more fun and it creates more of a meaningful experience, rather than just a job. Not to mention you make soo many friends! I could go on for a long time about this, but I thought I would put in my incredible experience from being an employee at Worlds of Fun :)

For those are/have work(ing/ed) at Worlds of Fun, have fun and make good memories!

I love how amazingly awesomely random this thread is but I loved working there too! I've worked there for two years... sort of. I  worked there first as a screamster in Bloodshed last year and that had to be like the best job ever. I would have done that job for free (even though you basically do) being that it didn't feel like a job. It is the only place where you can scare people and not get punched! Trust me I've tried it elsewhere and got one right in the kisser! dancing_banana I almost felt guilty going on breaks because I had so much fun! Plus I got to listen to Rob Zombie like all night! headbang

My second year I got to work the fregin Mamba! Ya... I know... I'm totally cool... I got to work in an amazing crew with an awesome lead who was about as loony as me! I loved amazing people with spiels, entertaining people with the microphone, and getting "STFU" looks from loser guests who don't like to have any fun! One of my greatest memories from working there this season was when some British Coaster Enthusiasts had an ERS session and I was in charge due to our lead being at Magic Mountain and having no assistant lead because she had moved. I had a lot of fun with those Brits and got freakin applauded for being freakin awesome. Got a lot of compliments and made me want to be British! I am considering coming back next year but I've got a lot of things still up in the air. If not I plan on being awesome.  :idea1:

Story time!

Last Saturday after work, I was walking up to Cash Control, and I saw a few boosters outside of Retail talking to my Manager Cole. (The best Manager ever!)
I figured that they were there to help out with Games. (I was glad I got off work. I had bad experiences in the past with boosters working Games. Mainly because two of them didn't want to have to work. So i kind of had to step in and tell them what to do, because it's not fair for Worlds of Fun to give them money for no work.
I know not all boosters are like that, but I just didn't want to work with any more of them afterward.)

Anyway...
As I was walking to return my Till Bag to Cash Control, my Manager stopped me and said: "After you finish at Cash Control, meet me in my office".
I was scared out of my mind! I had never actually been sent to his office, I've only seen it from behind the desk at Retail. So I was pretty worried.
So just my luck, I have to wait in a LONG line of boosters in Cash Control. They had to be explained everything. So it took longer then if it was just a line of workers.
So that added more tension to my already shaky hands.

So I finally get to Retail, I swiped out, and I was about to sign out but Cole said just stop what you're doing for a minute, and come in my office.
I totally thought I was screwed. This being my first money-handling job, all I ever think about is: "Do they think I'm stealing money?!". A LOT of people got fired this year because they were stealing, and I didn't want to be added to that list.

No. I don't steal. Never stolen before, and I don't plan to start. Heck, I practically cried when I was 2 bucks under the first month I worked in Games. I've always tried to be super careful not screwing up with money. Even though I've messed up multiple times, I'm sad to say. But I try to "Re-pay" them by trying to work even harder the next day.

So, I sit down. And this is the conversation:

Cole: Do you work tomorrow?
Me: No. I usually have Sundays off because of church.
Cole: Oh. Well do you want to work tomorrow?
Me: If you need me to come in, I'll be glad to.
Cole: The reason why I ask is because only two people out of the entire Games department has been selected to go to a free Cornerstone Breakfast at Ambam. They've been selected because we think they've worked the hardest. And you're one of them.
Me: Oh my gosh! Thank you so much! I'll ask my parents if they can take me to work tomorrow.
Cole: Thank you for your hard work.
Me: Thank you!
*Shakes hands*

WOW! I was so excited. I was like flipping out all the way to the pick-up-drop-off. LOL!
Welp, that's the story!

I plan to come back next year to work at Games again! I'll be a white tag, and I'll be able to stand on chairs without getting in trouble! YAY!
