Halloween Haunt 2011--- WoF
« on: Mar 15, 2011, 09:05 »
I know its a little early to be discussing haunt but If you go over to WoF facebook page you'll notice someone replied to a haunt question saying, "Dominion of Doom will being replaced by London Terror".

I first took this comment with a grain a salt until I notice his employer was WoF as a Lead. I'm still going to doubt the comment till I hear more but it doesn't sound too far fetch from being true.

--EDIT-- I took the guys name off of here for fear he may lose his job over this.

It sounds like a good idea.  It makes sense to refresh the haunts every now and then to keep people interested.

Haunt is a long way off still... I'd hold off getting excited about any new Haunts until later in the year.  Who knows what may change between now and then... not even sure if Brent would know yet.

I would rather have more haunts then just repurposing old ones

I thought the major roadblock to this is labor, that is having enough people to work a haunt.  I don't know for fact either way, it justs seems like they would probably hire more people than they do for Haunt if they had more applicants.  I just basing this on the amount of advertising that is done for job opening and I may be way off base.

Worlds of Fun stated this on their Facebook wall today, " Plus, we'll share our Haunt plans with anyone that registers and meets the requirements!"

The register event that they are speaking of is the Coasting for Kids which benefits Give Kids the World. So nothing really new just thought I would spread the word about the event.

I have been a busy bee these pass few weeks trying to squeeze as much haunt new as I possibly can. With many evidence pointing towards the same thing. First the best evidences.

Exhibit A: After the Coasting for Kids event I went on the prowl to find a person that received some haunt plans and I found one. Although they refused to give me all the info they did confirm that Dominion of Doom will not be returning.

Exhibit B: After a late lonely night on Facebook I stumbled upon a screamster group page. Upon further inspection I found that many were talking about wanting or getting hired to Terror of London.

So in conclusion I believe Dominion of Doom will be replaced with Terror of London.

Would you guys believe me when I say I actually suck at the game of clue? lol

I have bee told by someone who was at Coasting for kids that it is indeed DOD revamp! I can't remember what. I imagine the TOL idea is probably right! I don't get as excited for Haunt stuff as I do rides. However because I know the impact Haunt has on the park I do get a little excited.

The thing is, a lot of the props for DoD can be reused in ToL since a lot were already "gothic inspired"

Heres what a screamster said about Terror of London,

" London Terror, from what I was told about it sounds more like a huge production versus just a regular house.. it sounds pretty cool actually the more you hear of it, it's going to start where Dominion ended by the Detonator, I believe it's ...one of the longest houses and the most elaborate, I was told it wont really even get done till the day of Haunt. Everybody has to talk in a British accent, there's prostitutes, 6 werewolves, a butcher, Jack the Ripper, Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde, a pie lady, a flower lady..and tons of other characters...think Sweeney Todd "

Hmm sounds intresting. Especially the part where they said, " it's going to start where Dominion ended by the Detonator". It sounds like their trying to get rid of that huge bottle neck that happens every year at the Fury of the Nile hill.

Well that will definitely help with the flow of people in the park.  With two different haunt queues starting in the same location (Mummy Yummies crossing) this makes much more sense.

Well we had BloodShed first and it did so well that it was duplicated at the other parks.
Lore of the Vampire is still pretty much only at WOF.
Camp Gonnagitcha was original and only at WOF for awhile.

If it does well and is popular, it will be copied to other parks.  That's the way it works.

Actually Bloodshed at Canada's Wonderland opened in 2005, and SlaughterHouse at Scarowinds opened up in 2006. While Paramount's Fear Fests didn't officially switch over to Halloween Haunt's until after the 2006 Haunt season, Cedar Fair still got to take a look at how their Fright Fest's were put on. With the success of Bloodshed/Slaughter House, the expansion of Slaughter House themed mazes grew across the chain, contributing to the addition of said themed mazes at Valleyscare, Knott's, Kings Dominion, California's Great America, as well as Worlds of Fun in 2007.

As far as Lore, Chateau Du Damne at Valleyscare is the only other true Vampire Maze (excluding Club Bloods) in the chain, however the original concept derived from Lore/Dominion of Doom at Knott's, which were mazes from when we all were much younger (try 1992, Slaughter House also originally premiered at Knott's in '87).

Camp, also a popular maze at Worlds of Fun back in its day, derived once again from Knott's, in which they had a flume maze as opposed to a walk through, which appeared in 1996-2000.

Just a little Haunt history for everyone. Lesson? All good theme ideas come from Knott's.

It looks like London Terror is going to be heavy with the steampunk theme.

Went to WOF on Saturday and found London Terror scenes/props over by the Tivoli hall. Most of the scenes that were visible were brick walls and random buildings but If I did my math right the scenes should be roughly about two football fields long. As for props one caught my eye. It was a cart that was made to look steampunk-y but what made this prop catch my eye was that it had a canister below with a hose connecting it to a nozzle up top. I'm going to guess its going to shoot air maybe fog. Really wish I had my camera on me cause it looked sweet.

Also I went to LoT's site and found most of Dominion of Dooms props up. They were scrunched together towards what will be the end.

I'm supprised they are keeping all the props. I thought they were heading out to Dorney for Grave Walkers. Half the lot was filled with gravestones. Plus, every time we walked though that alley we would jump out and scare the living daylight out of smaller kids in my group. Ahhhhhhh, Gooood Times! lol lol lol lol lol backtotopic This year should be a good year, defantly. And is it just me or does someone else think Le Taxi Tour would have been a great place for London Terror (meaning props, fog, and scares while riding the ride)

Dug through some older post on a WoF halloween haunt page and found a guy saying this, " Cant work this year cause of them being over staffed"
I'm going to assume hes talking about a screamster position. So I got to ask, do screamster positions often become over staff as stated above? If so one would think they would add more haunts to the line up instead of re theming them.

I do know that a lot of the "surviving" summer employees like to switch to Haunts during the fall, in addition to the people that they hire just for one month (although I dunno WHY anyone would go through the trouble for a 1 month, minimum wage job) so there very well may be no shortage of people. I don't believe they are holding back on new haunts because of staffing. It's probably more likely a space and money issue, as each new haunt means having to renovate/build structures, get new decorations, figure out where to put yet another big queue and also add another big group of employees to payroll.

I too would love to see some rides integrated into a haunt. The train seems like a no-brainer to me, it can hold a good amount of people. Have it break down and be attacked by a mob of zombies (or something) and then get up and running just in time to escape, could be fun. Fury of the Nile might be able to do something similar to that too, perhaps pirates chasing boats, shooting them with water.

Just like PreOut, I think it's a money and spcing issue. For example, Dorney Park adds stuff new every year, yet they usually get bad reviews because of the scaractors not being spaced out even and having a shortage in each haunted house/scarezone. As for Worlds of Fun, I also think Worlds of Fun should involve the train in something. Maybe bringing back the old mazes to intigrate into the train, such as Camp, Carnival (of Carniverous Clowns that is), and Dominion of Doom. That would be awesome. As for Fury of the Nile, I highly doubt it. You probably couldn't even see the monsters. And it dosen't really need it either, because even in the normal season, It's creepy as  pure_evil (pure evil) just try it with fog and strobes and stuff. I've never been to HAUNT, but i'm going this year.  dancing_banana :laughing4:  ddr ddr ddr ddr ddr headbang headbang

Sweet update Swoosh!

Over at Bloodshed I like the new Chevy they got but as a Ford lover I really wish they would of gotten another Ford. Or, here's an idea  :idea1:,  WoF should give me the green beauty so I can fix it up to its glory days and then I could pick up hot chicks in it. Ya I like that idea lol
