Nintendo 3DS
« on: Sep 28, 2010, 11:11 »
Nintendo 3Ds is priced in Japan at 25,000 yen or 300 US Dollars and is slated for Feb. 26,  Mar. 2011 for US and EU.  I'm not sure about this one,  its pretty steep for a handheld, but it is stereoscopic 3d without the need to wear glasses, and every game in Nintendos library is said to be capable of being displayed in 3d. Including games from other publishers from the virtual console (SEGA).  I'm still puzzled on how the original Super Mario Brothers sidescroller will :bs: show dimension? :bs:

Interesting.  I have found that I don't have a lot of use for handhelds.  The only time I play them is when I fly.

I hope that they can eventually port this type of tech over to TV's.

I have read that just because that's about $300 American does not mean it will cost $300 here, it will probably be around $250, and for all the stuff it can do, that is a fair price.
The game lineup is incredible and I cannot wait for it!

Looks pretty cool. Rumor is that PSP2 will also be launched next year. I am with Jason I don't really have a ton of time for handheld. Almost wish I lived in a bigger city somewhere that I had to take a train or something to get some playtime!

They already have.  It just isn't in mass production.  I have read on two different blogs where they visited a manufacturer in person to verify what they had claimed.  The tech is there, but just like SED or OLED it might not ever make it to mass production (at least from this manufacturer).  Most estimates I have seen for being able to walk in a big box store and pick a stereoscopic tv are about 4-5 years. :dunno:

A 3D without the need for glasses might be right around the corner.

Sorry, should have clarified what I meant.  Estimates for USA to have this in a large format is still multiple years away.  20" for $2500 is not going to appeal to the masses here.  At least not when you can get 50", with 2 pairs of glasses and a 3D Blu-ray player for the same price.
