Well looks like not only are we getting a new Aquarium at Crown Center but a LegoLand Discovery Center: http://economy.kansascity.com/?q=node/10705

For someone who just had a kid this news is pretty awesome.  I'm really impressed that we are getting both of these.  I know some people wanted a full Legoland, but I have always had my doubts that we could support to large amusement parks.

And if the Prariefire project ever gets going (http://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2011/02/09/prairiefire-at-lionsgate-casts.html ) I will have an Aquarium, a decent kids attraction, and good museum within 15 minutes of my house.  At one point there was talk about this project having an Aquarium, but it looks like has been taken off the table since the Crown Center announcement.

EDIT: The one in Chicago looks really cool: http://www.legolanddiscoverycenter.com/chicago/en/index.htm

It's a win for the kids in our area for sure.

I had been wondering about that Prariefire project.  I like the museum piece but I'm leery about additional retail in the area.  There's a mall at 135th and Metcalf that's 25% built and it's been sitting empty for close to 3 years now.

I definitely agree about the retail on the 135th Corridor.  I am not in that area often, but there seems to be a lot of finished, and unfinished vacant spaces.  There have even been rumblings that the Metcalf project will have to be torn down. From what I understand, whatever retailer was supposed anchor that space backed out, and the developer went bankrupt.  It is kind of facing the same issues the Plaza construction is facing where the building was built for a specific tenant who backed out making it unattractive to potential lessees.

Maybe I can convince the school that the younger kids need to go here on a field trip. :D

The Quest ride is basically the darkride section of the Dragon coaster at their Legoland Parks.

That's where Morton's used to be.  I miss that place dearly.  :(
