You should try and get in good with Valleyfair for their Coaster Craze event in July.

^We'll definitely look into that.

I also want to add that replacement cards will cost $5.

All of the cards have been sent.  Please let me know if you didn't receive yours.

I will not be taking any more orders for Mayhem.  We just wouldn't have enough time to print and mail.

We would like to recruit a club member to write a Mayhem review for us.  If anyone's interested you can send me a quick note at jason@coastercommunity.com

I've started reaching out to parks for next year and there's one that I really want to add.

This park requires coaster clubs to charge it's members an annual fee.  I'm thinking that $10 is plenty.

Do any of the current club members object?

Nope. I think that price is perfect. So it's just like ACE or Rideworld with a membership card and such? Also yeah, I definitely agree, Coaster Craze should be on the list! (Plus the first 100 members get something cool from the CC shop!) :)

It's a lot like ACE except it won't get you into every event.

Last year we only participated in Coaster Mayhem (WoF) and Coaster Craze (Valleyfair).  I'm really close to adding HoliWood Nights (Holiday World) for next year.

I'll give everyone a few more days to object though.

Why don't you just charge whatever it costs to produce and ship the card?

I was going to go with $5 but I got the feeling from another park that $5 wasn't going to cut it.

I'll be fine if I don't print a single card though.  I just want people to have an alternative way to access the park sponsored events.

If people can afford it they should get an ACE membership.  It covers all of the bases.

When you get right down to it, ACE isn't that expensive -- just figure in all you get with it.  Shoot the discounts at Holiday World and the "eat for free" at some events is worth it for me.

Well since I have a feeling that rideworld is going down the drain, (They haven't updated their website since june 15th) then I actually might buy one of these. I just need to make sure that Coaster Craze will be on the list of events that I'll be able to get into for a discounted/minimal price.

IMHO - I don't think ace is worth it. I don't see how ace keeps it's members when they charge the prices that they do. I guess people will pay it cause they want that title. "Official ACE member"

For some people it might be worth it cause they travel to other parks and go to those events. (Or at least they claim they went to the events.)

Being a member of coaster community would be enough for me cause I don't plan on going to any other events except for Coaster Mayhem, and maybe Coaster Craze again. And of course being the fanboy that I am, I will be going to Cedar Point, but not for Man!a.

I for one would like a public cost breakdown of ACE events and memberships.  They seem to collect a lot of money and offer little explanation as to where it is going.

My main reason for being an ACE member is the events.  If given the choice I would prefer to visit a park when ERT is involved.  I have also made a great deal of new friends while attending these events and what's better than friends that don't think you're completely looney for riding roller coasters.  loser

Being a coaster enthusiast I also support their efforts to build a roller coaster museum and their efforts to preseve existing roller coasters.

The organization isn't a fit for everyone and it can certainly be considered expensive.

Ben,

I know for Coaster Christmas that the costs were those passed down from the park.  They charge ACE for ERT time and for the food.  Our region didn't pocket any money from the event and I'm guessing that this breakdown also applies to other events.

I think that this information should be made available to all members just so they see exactly where the money is going.  Much the same way stockholders of large corporations are given access to the financials of the the company.

It just should be transparent because the lack of transparency makes you ask questions.

I honestly don't think that anyone at ace is profiting from the activities of the club, that being said I also don't think anyone is steering the ship and making any efforts to keep the costs down.

Just as an anecdote,

When I attended an event last summer I registered at the gate of the park and therefore received no early discount and had to pay the price that included the park pass.  When the ACE person found out that I already had a Season pass to the park he all but refused to give me the passes that I HAD PAYED for.  This interchange was very jovial and all but still, I payed for them and I should get them.  He made the comment that if I didn't take the passes "It would save the club a lot of money".

Now I understand that they obviously have to pay the park for those passes.  And if I didn't take the passes the club would make extra money from me paying for the passes that they in turn were able to return to the park and not have to pay for.

So what he should have said is that it would have made the club some extra money not saved them money.  Unless they were actually losing money on the sale of the park passes.

This just left a bad taste in my mouth.

You should email them through the site and see if they'll give you a break down.

Ben they do that.  Once a year there is a business meeting (at the ACE Con in June) and anyone in ace can attend.  They will hand out a booklet with all the info in it and each EC member will talk about the report.  Members can then ask questions to them.  All this is required by law.

Awesome thanks for the info Jeff.

Just knowing that they do it sets my mind at ease.

BTW I know I was overreacting a little on this one but I tend to do this sometimes.

I don't mind paying if need be. I plan on dropping Coasterbuzz membership as I don't visit the site enough anymore to justify the cost being to get rid of the pop ups and have never attended one of their events.

Since finding CC I have almost completely stopped reading CB. I guess I just feel more at home here.

PutzBuzz is annoying anyway since he censors so much of the crap over there that he doesn't like.  Dropped that site along time ago, along with SwillNetwork.  ThemeParkRevenue also annoys me most of the time and I barely visit it anymore as well.

I don't mind TPR but I don't visit their actual boards much. Theme Park Ave is pretty much the only other site I make a point to visit. They are based out of Orlando, Florida area. I won 2 free IOA/USF Park Hopper Passes in a contest they had on their podcast back in the beginning of the year.

P.S. Putz does censor a lot of stuff. Also a lot of people over there can be pretty rude over harmless questions.
