^I'm not trying to be rude here, so forgive me if it comes off that way, but really what does kansas have in the way of large business there?  I know that a majority of kansas's population is right along the Missouri border and most of those people work across the border, I would assume... but are there any large industries other than farming in kansas?  I'm asking because I honestly do not know.

Sprint is big on the Kansas and is actually the largest employer in the area.  Garmin is another one.

Most of the state is farming and ranching though.  Wichita and Salina are big aerospace centers.

It's a fair question.  Kansas certainly isn't a booming economy but like I said earlier it hasn't been hit as hard as the most of the country.

As Jason said Sprint is a big employer, (however I beleive because of the layoffs Shawnee Mission School District is now higher - both are around 14,000 locally) and Garmin out in Olathe.  They are continuing to expand as well.

From Wikipedia: Overland Park is also home to the headquarters of Fortune 500 companies YRC Worldwide(they have fallen on hard times in the last couple of years but are starting to recover) and Embarq (technically since the merger with CenturyTel the new company CenturyLink has two headquarters one being here the other in Louisiana), as well as Black & Veatch Corporation (They are expanding and plan on adding 2500 in the next couple of years), Waddell & Reed Financial Investment, Ferrellgas, Ash Grove Cement Company, and Compass Minerals. Applebee's was headquartered in the city until its move to nearby Lenexa, Kansas.

Bushnell is headquartered here, and US Bank just opened a new call center and will have about 3000 employees by the end of next year as well.

As to Wichita, Cessna and Hawker Beechcraft remain based in Wichita today, along with Learjet and Spirit AeroSystems. Both Airbus and Boeing maintain a workforce in Wichita.

That said, Anything west of the Topeka or south of Wichita is farming. Nothing extremely glorious but it has historically been stable.

/last time I will bring it up.

Some points from this weekend.

1. Kudos to kansas for coming back and winning their game this week after such a humilating home opener last weekend.  Two questions that came from this game are (A) Just how good is NDSU to hold kU to 3 points last week considering the 'hawks performance today.  (B) Just how overrated are the ACC teams this year after GT's terrible performance today and VT's performance against Boise State on Monday.

2. Just how good is Nebraska's defense?  They give up 17 points to yet another very week team.  The most telling is Idaho won the TOP, had 24 first downs, 279 yards of passing.  The thing that really bothers me is that NU lost 3 fumbles to Idaho.  That cannot happen in Big XII play.

3. What is up with the Longhorns?  A rather pathetic performance last weekend against Rice where the couldn't capitalize on some potential turnovers by Rice and this week they can only put up 34 points on Wyoming, a team that has been struggling, at home in Austin.  This does not scream "national championship" team like the media wants me to believe.  They keep playing the way they are and they won't be a JerryWorld for the final B12CG in December.

4. Did anyone else think it was cute that Colorado thought that they could go into Berkley and come away with a win?  Yeah no one was buying that book.  Look whose back, yep the old scrub Buffs of last year.  Very pathetic performance today at Cal.

5. Okie Lite, what the heck?  You barely escaped Troy yet again.  Why do you keep scheduling this team when you know they give you fits?

6. KSU sure made me believe they're "back" by allowing Missourah State to score 24 points on them.  Sure puts the UCLA win in perspective.

7. Mizzou looked pretty impressive tonight against their FCS cupcake.  Instead of letting the team think they have a chance like a lot of the other Big XII teams have let their cupcakes do, they put McNeese away early and a late TD on the 3rd string defense is how they got their 6... and then their kicker hit the upright on the PAT.

The thing that hurt NU's defense was the TOP because our offense could not hold on to the ball. The last 7 points came off 3rd stringers. Our D had 5 INT's and 7 Sacks! 2 of the INT's were Pick 6 first time that has happened in school history. Only 2 INT's were handed to us the other 3 were earned. There are a lot of people nationally that are saying the QB for Idaho could be playing on Sunday's so... I wouldn't worry about our D to much. Our O is what will cost us game's just like they did last year @ home to Iowa State. I hope the offense gets their stuff together before Big 12 Play! Niles Paul year after year, dropped pass and fumble after dropped after dropped pass and fumble. Great ability and talent wasted because he could never learn to hang on to the ball. Our FRESHMAN starting QB made a lot of Freshman errors today and that was what prevented us from putting 50 or 60 on the board yesterday. He had 1 fumble, 1 INT, and hiccups here and there and was still 13-18 passing. 3 offensive play of the game he had a guy wide open middle of the field easy TD with no pressure on the QB and he threw it at the WR's feet. I hope that gets hammered out before Big 12 play also!

Talking about VT's embarrassing loss to Boise State forget about that game they loss to James Madison yesterday! Holy Cow!

Yeah VT is done for the season.  Tells me that the "experts" don't know CRAP this season.  Seriously, all the "ranked" ACC teams have done this year is embarrass themselves.

I'm just going off the experts and honestly NU has yet to impress me in either of their first two games.  I'm not being a "Nub Hater" I'm just saying that as weak as those two teams were they should have KILLED them and they didn't.  Sure they won, but look at how many yards they gave up to WKU and IDAHO. O.O

You have to look at when all those yards came man. 2nd and 3rd string players were in the game and the game was well in hand. One thing Pelini has that none of Husker Coaches of old have is he isn't going to waste valuable game time experience that he can give the 2nd and 3rd strings, on running up a score in a game that is well in hand! I hope for once he leaves the 1st string in the whole game to prove a point that the 1st is plenty capable of running the score up if that is what people want. It is funny because for so many years other Big 8 and now Big 12 teams fans have done nothing but hate on how NU used to run the score up but now we have a coach that would rather use that extra game time to teach the younger kids instead of running up the score and they all of a sudden aren't good and unimpressive. Not mad just saying!

I'm not hating here, but Nebraska hasn't been impressive since TO left the helm.
Nebraska is a mid-level mediocre team.  Until their defense proves themselves and actually can hold down the opposing team on total yds offense, I still say the black shirts are not back.  Beating Washington might prove how good NU is, but it will have to be a resounding win and not just by a few points.

...and don't think that by saying that Nebraska isn't all that great of a team that I am insinuating that Mizzou is any better, because I'm not.

Impressive win this week for the Big Red. I knew they would win yet this game still surprised me. Some of my questions for the team were answered and new ones were made. Our D did really well and had 2 Interceptions off Heisman Candidate and first round draft pick Jake Locker. He also had not thrown an INT all season until yesterday! The secondary made some mental mistakes by biting on some play fakes and couple that with the weak Interior D Line That is how Washington scored. Good game overall for the Offense our only 2 fumbles were by our Back up QB! That is what set up one of their TD's because of great field position and then we recovered the other one.
Surprising Win for Colo, Huge Win for OKSt, and what is up with the rest of the Big 12?

Here is next week's Pick ems for me;
K-State
Mizzou
Texas
Okla
Northern Iowa
Nebraska
New Mexico State
