FIRE AT ADVENTURELAND (IOWA)

Quote
ALTOONA, Iowa -- At least three fire crews responded to the Adventureland theme park in Altoona Saturday afternoon.

Adventureland spokeswoman Molly Vincent said the fire is contained to an area known as 'Main Street' inside the park and no one has been injured.

The fire is so big, smoke could be seen from the Des Moines International Airport.

Vincent said Adventureland is closed for the season. There is a popular gun show going on nearby, but it is not connected to the fire.

KCCI viewer photos show a lot of smoke and fire billowing from shops inside Adventureland. Fire crews are keeping everyone out of the area.

BOOOO The only real theme to the park is Main Street! Wicked looking pictures though! There really is nothing to those buildings so I am sure it went fast!

They didn't have alarms or sprinkler systems in them so the only way the park was notified that it was on fire was because people at the near by gun show called 911 to report the fire.  That block is a complete loss -- but thankfully due to the "road" the fire dept was able to contain the fire.  I hope they rebuild that section as quickly as they can and make it look simliar to what it used to -- and maybe now is a good time to think about taking precautions on the other side of the street and upgrading them to current fire codes.

CAUSE OF FIRE is said to be a ceiling falling in and tearing some of the old wiring which caused a spark and then the fire itself.

I hope that the bingo hall is OK.

I'm sure that it will be easy to rebuild.  You just have to hope that they had insurance.

I think the bingo hall building is the one with flames pouring out of it.

^^Bingo Hall is completely gone along with the rest of the buildings in that block.  Only thing left is a wall and a few metal beams.  Complete loss of that block of buildings
