Right about now is where I wish I lived closer to a Six Flags park. Closest one to me is way up in Atlanta.

This is a great deal, but I can't figure out how to turn of the pop-up blocker. :P

They must be seeing some positives coming from these deep discounts.  I wonder if it's increasing their per cap spending by a wide enough margin?

It will be interesting to see what direction they head in coming out of bankruptcy.

The problem is where do you go from here down the road? The problem with giving away the gate is when you cease that strategy...although I guess they are inching up five bucks on this one, I wonder if people will be upset at that.

Same with Freestyle, if people are used to $8 tickets, then getting them to pay $25 or $30 is a tough sell.

The difference with Freestyle is the style of market.

FMP is in a market that sees people staying at the beach most of the day and then wanting to do something at night. The thing about this is, these people have been doing that for so long that it is hard to change their "routine" so you cannot expect them to stop doing that now and go to the park for the whole day.

SO what FMP is doing is rather genius -- giving the people that DO decide to spend the whole day a deeper discount then those who wait until later on in the day.  While that sounds absurb, it is actually working.  I talked to the Marketing director out at FMP on Monday and since the promotion has started attendance has gone up, as has in park spending.

The thing a lot of people do not realize about FMP is that it has very little debt.  When Freestyle organization bought the park, it was for a mere fraction of what Hard Rock Holdings had spent.  Thus they are pretty much out of debt already from the initial purchase so they can get do the discounts to "re-wire" people to spend the whole day at the park

Six Flags is charging $5 to print tickets?  I guess they got a clue from Ticketmaster...

I'm just bringing this up for the sake of argument.  I understand what you're saying and why Freestyle is doing what they're doing but I wonder what it will do to them long term.

If they take away the discount next year are they back to square one with regards to day time operations, meaning lack of peeps.  If they keep it does the increase in per cap spending do enough to offset what they lose at the gate.  An increase in attendance sounds good but if it's not a profitable increase then it's a stagnant business model with no room to grow.  Would taking the discount away cause a public uproar that could hurt the bottom line?

Not having debt is nice and all but minimal profit isn't going to allow them to do much in future.

Or their model could me working and I just wasted key strokes.

It seams pretty simple to me, if you give your tickets away for very little charge then you are walking down a very slippery road.  Not only is it difficult to raise the prices back to "normal", think of the effect this has on group sales.  I could be mistaken but I am pretty sure group sales are the bread and butter of most parks bottom line and you will have to cut way deep into those numbers too.  If you cut your gate price for regular guests then you have to cut it even further for group sales for them to remain happy.

The law of supply and demand is pretty simple, lower your price and demand increases, so yes attendance will be up.  But guess what, costs will be up too.  I doubt the increase in attendance will offset the additional cost.

This is just a marketing ploy to get people to the park and it could easily backfire.  I don't think it's genius at all, I think they are scared out of there minds (like Six Flags is) and are pulling out all the stops.

The whole give them something to do during the night time sounds like Celebration City to me ;)

I hope it works for them, I struggle to believe that a twenty or thirty dollar discount at the gate is all made up in park. I don't think people's in park spending habits change + $20 or + $30.

Parking is $7 at FMP.
The food was very reasonably priced too.

I just really enjoyed the park and really wished it was closer to Missouri
