Yea. We left at about 4. We rode Twolf, Patriot, and Spinning Dragons. Mamba never opened sad.

It got warm enough, just with the wind blowing out of the West and it being cooler up higher I suppose was too much to be able to get it running... ah there's always next weekend.

I hate to be the rule monkey but taking photos from the train is a violation.

It sets a bad example.

The rule is in writing at the bottom of page 3 here http://www.worldsoffun.com/_upload/pdfs/2008ridersafetyguide.pdf

Honestly had you not posted the link I would have never given it second thought.  I've been on several trains or tram type rides and taken pictures. Had I been able to go out there this weekend I probably would have done the same thing.

I certainly would have as well.  Before the park opened I looked into just to be on the safe side and that link is the answer that I got.

Well being new to the Kansas City area, K-State, I decided to make my first trip there Saturday, but never made it past the season pass processing center as my friends were unwilling to pay for one ride, which is understandable. I was looking at some maps a while back, and had thought where the markers are now would be perfect for a new coaster. It is a larger area than I thought it would be. I am used to big scale coasters, SFMM being my home park when not at school, and this possible footprint is exciting.

I would not rule out a booster bike/pony express style coaster, but on a grand scale. They have been kept relatively small up until now, and as time goes on, models typically grow much larger. I do not seeing this being a B&M as there is already a hyper coaster in Mamba and unless its a spread out Dive Machine or Floorless, I just don't see it happening. A terrain rocket is foreseeable as well, but in all likelihood I think it will be a GCI with a mixture of Renegade and the new GCI headed to CGA  in 2009, which would be very nice to see as wooden coasters are starting to show up more now.

I'll ask Brandon if the park has a problem with it and if they do then I will take them down.

The Middle East, Australia and South America do not appear in the book "Around the World in 80 Days" which the park is themed upon.  It's not a new land.
Doesn't have to be a new land. It could still be an expansion.

Could happen.

I honestly try to stay away from speculation these days. It only makes me disappointed in the long run.

I feel the same way about the disappointment....
so, maybe they are just throwing out flags to keep WOF on everyone's mind, and they ran out of things for the 15 years olds to do during training, so they gave them a general area and said throw up some flags and put some paint on trees, and there were some of the 15 year olds that wandered a little far from the group, and that now has caused a large footprint...

Checked with Brandon and I hope everyone got a chance to see the photos as they are now *poof* be gone.
Yep, no photos for you anymore from the train.  If you want to see the flags you are going to have to pay an admission fee to the park.  icon_salut

wow thats a really dumb rule... I mean, dude, its the train... Im a HUGE train enthusiast, and I've been on dozens just like that one, and thats the first time anyone has ever said anything about not being allowed to do something which is perfectly safe....  Even the train at SDC and Dollywood allow photography.

Apparently it has been the rule since 2005, that was when people were taking photos of the Patriot site from Skyliner and it was pointed out that photography is not allowed on any rides at Worlds of Fun including Skyliner and the WOFRR.  I honestly had forgot about it, because like you said the train is such a slow moving ride, however I will abide by it as it IS the rule.

I think that theme left with the steam boats.  Other than Africa I don't think the park has nearly as much theming as it use to.  And having a western shooting gallery in Africa now detracts from said theme.

OK, I have seen lots of talk about the terrain of the area, mainly about how hilly is it? Well I Provided a link to TerraServer's Topo map to the flag area at http://terraserver-usa.com/image.aspx?T=2&S=11&Z=15&X=929&Y=10842&W=1 . The contour lines on the map are elevation changes of 10 feet, and take note on how close some of them are.

They also don't allow pregnant women on the train. I know this because I was at WoF with a pregnant woman last summer.
That is a dumn rule. My best photos of Patriot are from Skyliner.

^  The pregnant rule must be new... I rode during all three of my pregnancies, and with my first daughter that was born in September, I probably rode up until a couple weeks before she was born.

As silly as they are they are all there for your safety. I could see if they let people take photos from the train that some little 5 year old kid just trying to use the free disposable camera that his hotel gave his family for staying there would lean to far out of it and fall to his death off one of the bridges and his family would sue the park. Do some hotels still give you free disposable cameras for the little ones for staying a certain amount of nights? I know when I was younger there was a Best Western in St. Louis that did. The pregnant rule kinda baffles me. Maybe the Heights of some of those bridges cause some people to panic (mainly people that already don't like Bridges like my sister) and that is not good for an expecting mother.

I dig the effort but I'm not really getting a good feel for the area from map you linked to.

After riding the train the changes in elevation don't look that dramatic.  They are pretty gradual down to the creek.

^ To get an idea of the area just click Aerial View and you clearly see Possum Trot along and the Fury of the Nile there. The loop you see on the Topo Map is the Train Turnaround in Possum Trot.

I'm not sure if the terrain would make a big difference... the Zinger was not on flat land, and it was a great piece of work.

I think a Zinger remake would be awesome also... like a family coaster...

Hey Dustijn when do the KC school get out for the summer? I was wondering because last year the first full week the park was open the schools were still in session and I figured if that is like that again I might try to come down one of those days.

Due to the terrible weather we had this winter in the metro area I think that they have to go until midway through the week of the 9th and some do not get out until the week of the 12th.  My school district fortunately wasn't affected as much and we get out on the 21st of next month. *YEA*

Just keep in mind that its "Thrill U. Educational Week May 12-15, 2008."  I have no clue whether that will have an impact on attendance.
