More Photos of Acrophobia's Completed Tower
« on: Jan 28, 2006, 09:15 »
Midwest Info Guide has posted pictures of Acro's completed tower.

If this is anything like the other Intamin drop towers it should be about 200' of pure enjoyment.

With it being located at the highest point in the park, it will feel a lot taller than it really is.

How does this compare to detonator?

You cannot really compare them.  Detonator was built by S&S and uses compressed air to launch the cart upwards.  Acrophobia was built by Intamin and uses gravity to plummet from the top.  It is slowed down at the bottom by rare earth magnets.

I probably sound like a little kid but how does it compare to the drop side of power tower?  I really love that ride.

Well it is a matter of preference.  To me drop rides in general are boring.  Missy and I talked the entire time we rode Drop Zone (an Intamin tower) at PKD this past summer.  We didn't even break conversation once the fall started.  The people next to us were screamin' their heads off and we jsut kept talking.  They just don't do anything for me -- I ride them for the views though. :)  S&S turbo drops are even more tame then drop towers by Intamin, but to each his own.

I prefer the turbo drops to the intamin free falls.

I'm a fan of just about an drop though.

I prefer the first generation free falls (Demon Drop, Wildcatter) to the newer ones as I think they are more scary with the whole moving out to the drop area.  Really made Missy scream the first time she rode one.

Those used to be a lot of fun but these days they feel like you're being run through a car crusher.  If they could figure out a way to smooth out the transition from laying on your back to sitting upright I wouldn't have any complaints.

My first ride on one of those was truly a terrifying experience and it was after a two hour wait at SFMM.

I would have to agree with Dustijn. I am a HUGE fan of Deamon Drop, I will be so sad when they remove that thing, but then again I hear some rumors that the drop tower at Geauga Lake will be used as spare parts for Deamon Drop, so maybe there is life after death.  :icon_salut:
