Diamondback at Kings Island 2009
« on: May 15, 2008, 08:21 »
We've been so caught up with the retheming of Boomerang here at WoF that Kings Island has gotten away with new footers.

RIGHT UNDER OUR NOSES!

http://www.kiextreme.com/gallery/index.php?cat=46

Wasn't B&M hyper leaked late last year in an enthusiast rag?  It looks like it might splash in the pool.

Yeah, I saw the image of the hyper online a few weeks ago. Looks sweet, but so did Apollo's Chariot, which was fun but kinda meh to me. But, who am I to complain, the more B&M's, the merrier. I'm gonna have to go to Ohio yet again next year it sounds like...

I hear that the new project is actually a relocated Dip N Dots stand from Geauga Lake that will be heavily themed.

Well according to the Q&A at Cedar Point's Coaster Mania, it is a "garden" and overly reinforced "plant holders".

Well if the "rubble" pile becomes a "snowy white road" soon at WoF -- you might get your wish.

Now that EK is ready to be turned over to gen ops at SFStL, I would say that the GCI crew will be headed west

As in the GCI that got the necessary height exemption from the city council at California's Great America or are you giving a hint to something you already know?

Back to KI's "garden" -- I'm wondering if the path will go closer to the "non-splash-down-pool" so that the "non-existant-effect" goes on to a pathway.

You don't think it will splash like Shiekra does?  Seems pointless to add a splashdown pool otherwise.

I don't think that it will.  The area was a lake before construction started so it's probably just going to be a pool.

Jason, IDK how that "pool" can be anything but a splash down considering the trough and everything that is already there.

FYI, here's a scan of the layout given in that mag: http://www.coasterdom.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/07-11-19-01.jpg

I'm guessing it will be a splash ala Sheikra or Griffon as well. The splashes don't do much though, they are basically just a visual effect. Seems like it would be unnecessary and require extra maintenance on the trains, but what do I know.

Do the trains really get that wet though?  I was under the impression that it is just the fins that get wet constantly.

The drag dynamics would be way different when you compare a hyper train to a dive train.

I just don't see the splash thing working out.  I'm sticking with decorative pool.  :smileinbox:

It looks like the splash is near the end of the ride, maybe it will be used as a form of braking  :dunno:

Manta at SeaWorld is a flying coaster and is going to have a splash on it as well -- how is that any different?

It's not much different at all at this point.  I'm not sure how the Manta splash will work so I'll be interested to see how they configure it.

With that in mind I still don't see KI splashing the hyper.

I don't remember where I read it (all the boards blend together after awhile) but B&M has had the "splash" option for quite awhile now (even on inverteds, believe it or not) just no one has really been interested until the two Busch dive machines.

As for the KI hyper w/ splash... I see the splash buckets only being on the last 2-3 rows.  Also if the ride wasn't going to have a splash, why would every layout that we've seen so far make a big deal about showing the lake in the drawing?  Too many "coincidences" for me to say there will not be one.

I just noticed this pic http://www.screamscape.com/html/ki_-_2009_0.htm  That center trough makes me think even more that it will splash.
