Acrophobia Gets a New Name
« on: Feb 15, 2006, 01:31 »
It sounds like they're going to paint it and change it to Superman Tower of Power.

The guys over at sfstl.net have the scoop.

I did some more reading and it sounds like it's not going to actually open for a while.

I had emailed Mike Robbinson from the saveastroworld.com website and was informed when the ride was at AstroWorld, there was not a day that one section of the ride was closed because of lift problems.  And now with the repainting of the tower this will give them the extra time they need to correct any problems that may come up before they get started.  Yest its a shame also that the ride will not be ready for when the park opens and not until May is what a poster posted on SFSTL.net.  A letdown for those enthusiastic thrill takers that will have to wait till it opens.

The tower is also starting to take on its new color.  I have not taken pictures yet or been by , but the top is supposed to be darker in color.
The wind will be a factor in getting this painted quickly, So hopefully they will be ready opening day, but at this point the clock is ticking!

Mr. White, it is a cloned name from SFoT.

Steve, when you and if you do take photos of the color change -- MiG is still interested in hosting them.

Also the acronymn for Superman Tower of Power is STOP (FYI)

I went out today and took some pictures, but my card just crapped out on me!  Never had that happen.  So I am off to get another.  I plan on going again later this week and do my usual walk and get some closer images.  The colors are Darker blue top, Yello'orange and Red. They were getting ready for the Blue piece to be painted, the shade of Blue is the same color as the Superman outfit as well as the 2 other colors.

I will say it look kind of interesting right now.  A nice feature to add to it would be some strobe lights running down the tower, in a wild light display of effects. Or around the rings  Give the tower some power.

I may try again tomorrow for some more pics.   Still can't believe it.  Geez.

Well I beleive this is a great addition to the park, and I know I will head down there to ride it. I am told this design of tower is more thrilling than other style, like Power tower, So I guess we will have to see.

I doubt that it will be as thrilling as Power Tower since it relies on gravity alone.  Power Tower actual pushes you down instead of just dropping you.

It's the STOP that is thrilling about these type of towers -- no sissy bouncing.  :glasses10:
